Students at a Distance
As with all University programs, distance learning requires effective accommodations to ensure student accessibility. Students must be registered with the Office of Disability Services (ODS) to be approved for accommodations. Students requesting accommodations for Web-based courses must follow the same registration process as all students. Please visit our webpage at http://ods.gmu.edu. To register with ODS, students should follow these steps in accordance with whether they are on or off campus.
For on-campus students:
- After registering for an online course, please submit documentation of disability to the ODS. Please find the appropriate documentation guidelines at http://ods.gmu.edu/students/documentation.php. Once the documentation is received and reviewed you will receive an email inviting you to schedule an intake meeting. Should for some reason you are not contacted by our office please contact us at 703-993-2474, TTY 703-993- 2476, or email us at ods@gmu.edu.
- During the intake meeting, should you qualify for accommodations, a faculty contact sheet will be developed listing your approved access based accommodations.
- You will be given a hard copy and PDF file of your faculty contact sheet and you will be required to mail/email it to your faculty members.
- Should you require accessible text you will be asked to notify the Assistive Technology Initiative at http://ati.gmu.edu.
