Process for registering with the Office of Disability Services

Students with disabilities may self-disclose at the the time of application or at any point while enrolled at the University. Students are encouraged to disclose their first semester at the University. Upon self-identification you will register with the Office of Disability Services. The ODS staff will work collaboratively with you to choose the most appropriate and effective accommodations and resources.

In order to register you must follow these procedures.

  1. Make an appointment (703-993-2474) with a ODS consultant to request accommodations.
  2. Bring a copy of your documentation verifying your disability, a ODS consultant will work with you to choose needed reasonable accommodations and complete a Faculty Contact Sheet.
  3. If your disability has not been documented, ODS staff will advise you on how and where to obtain an assessment and verification.
  4. After completing the Faculty Contact Sheet, you will take the form to your professors. You will be given one form for each professor.
  5. You will ask each professor to sign the sheets, agreeing to comply with the accommodation requests.
  6. Return the signed copy of each sheet to the ODS as soon as possible.
NOTE: Students are encouraged to discuss their accommodation requirements with each Professor in order to foster direct communication.
